WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT BEING A PSYCHOLOGIST: I’m very extraverted by nature and enjoy working with people of different backgrounds and life experiences. I really appreciate the diversity of opportunity this career has afforded me. Over the last twenty years I have worked in a number of settings including private practice, public schools, traditional mental health, health care, consulting, and teaching for our state universities.
THEORETICAL ORIENTATION: I was trained in the scientist-practitioner model and use a number of evidence-based treatment approaches including Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Behavior Modification.
SERVICE IN PROFESSION: I have been a member of IPA since 1996 and served in a number of different roles in including CE committee, Secretary, Treasurer, State Advocacy, Public Sector Rep and most recently Public Education Coordinator for Idaho with APA. Through my role as PEC, I conduct presentations each year for various non-profit groups on a host of different topics. In addition, I have volunteered for the last 23 years as the staff psychologist and director of psycho-social programs for the Idaho Diabetes Youth Programs (Camp Hodia).
WHERE ARE YOU IN YOUR CAREER: Mid to advanced career – depending on the retirement plan of the day
HOBBIES: Outdoor recreation – hiking, back packing, rafting, paddle boarding; gardening; spending time with my family, friends and dogs
HIDDEN TALENT: Art – I served as the art mom for several years with my kids’ elementary school. I also performed in a jazz choir throughout high school.
ANYTHING ELSE YOU WANT TO SHARE: Being a longstanding member of IPA has been a fantastic experience, both personally and professionally. IPA is a relatively small state association, which provides excellent opportunities for leadership and advocacy. I truly value long-term relationships I have built with my colleagues and the experiences membership has afforded me throughout my career.
