DESCRIPTION

We are thrilled to offer a 3-part CE series (6 CE hours total) on perinatal mental health featuring national experts. This series will primarily focus on perinatal diagnosis of mood/anxiety disorders, psychiatric medication management considerations for these disorders, and include a pediatric perspective on infant/early childhood health. This series will focus on how psychologists working within and outside of comprehensive, multi-disciplinary health settings can best support expectant/new mothers and their families.

Diagnosis & Treatment of Perinatal Mood/Anxiety Disorders - presented by Malina Spirito, PsyD

After completing this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain assessing and framing treatment for Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders, especially Perinatal Anxiety and OCD, an often overlooked area of perinatal mental health.
  • Discuss supporting individuals from diverse cultural and racial backgrounds in the treatment of perinatal mood and anxiety disorders.
  • Demonstrate treatment of perinatal loss and grief, including decisions to terminate a wanted pregnancy and perinatal palliative care.
  • Describe integrating Perinatal Mental Health consultation in an OB/GYN setting (both outpatient and inpatient).
  • Discuss matters of sexuality and sexual functioning for the perinatal population.

Identification & Treatment of Peripartum Depression & Anxiety Disorders - presented by Zobeida Diaz, MD

 After completing this session, participants will be able to:

  • Review the prevalence, risk factors, and importance of identifying peripartum depression and anxiety disorders.
  • Explore the biological factors that may be implicated in the etiology of these disorders.
  • Review the data on the effectiveness and safety of antidepressant medications in pregnancy and lactation.
  • Discuss novel treatment options for postpartum depression.

Evidence-Based Practices for Perinatal Parent-Child Relationship
- presented by Colleen Doyle, PhD

 After completing this session, participants will be able to:

  • Explain why relationships matter to infant and child health and development.
  • Discuss evidence-based practices to assess, develop, and strengthen the parent-child relationship during the perinatal period.

  6.0 CE hours are available for attending all 3 underlined sessions above.    CE credit may also be earned on a session-by-session basis. The credit available for each individual session is listed on the SCHEDULE above.

This event is intended for post-doctorate-level psychologists.  Other licensed health and mental health providers and graduate students are welcome to attend. The event is sponsored by the Idaho Psychological Association.  The Idaho Psychological Association maintains responsibility for the program and its content.

A total of six (6.0) continuing education credits are available to psychologists for full attendance of this event.  CE credit may also be earned on a session-by-session basis. The credit available for each individual session is listed on the SCHEDULE above.

This activity provides a total of six (6.0) contact hours. Attendance letters will be provided. Contact your licensing board or professional association for your specific continuing education requirements.
